Ever since our last trip to Swiss Andy and I mainly been working (thinking of work, preparing for work, recovering from work and anticipating to work). This basically means we did not have a full day of together for weeks. However, last weekend we were both off. Yes, a whole weekend, two full days! Hallelujah. To celebrate this special event (we hardly ever have back to back days off) Andy booked us a posh hotel (i.e. The Hilton) in Sheffield.
The plan was to have a lie in on Saturday, drive to Sheffield early afternoon, climb outside if possible and than chill in our luxurious hotel with sauna and swimming pool, for the rest of the night. Unfortunately this was not how it worked out.
Because of some issues at work, Andy had to rush to Climb Newcastle in the morning (farewell lie-in and chilled morning). When we got to the Hilton late afternoon it turned out our booking was for the wrong day, Friday instead of Saturday!
When things you have planned go wrong, you are sometimes best of doing something you enjoy, i.e climbing. Off to the Climbing Works we went.
It's been a while since my last visit to the Works. I really enjoyed climbing there again. The problems at the Works are quite different from the problems at Climb Newcastle. I think partly because the Works uses more volumes, which make the problems harder to read (at least for a person like me, who starts pulling onto footholds instead of using the Volume ;)). After about 2 and a half hour we both got tired and decided to go and look for a place to stay.
We ended up at the 'Holiday Inn' with an Indian take a way, and had a very chilled evening. It turned out a perfect day.
The next morning we went back to the Works to finish of some problems. Drove back home, finished preparing our house for the 'big make over'*, had our Sunday dinner at the Earls and chilled at home the rest of the evening. So nice to have a weekend off.
After a relaxed weekend, it was back to work as normal. Although, normal? Beside working my normal ours, we (Andy, Chris and I) are also setting 3 new circuits at Climb Newcastle this week: red (hard-ish), blue (intermediate) and grey (hard-ish). The reds went up last Tuesday and this morning we've set the blues. It is fair to say that I'm quite tired (in a nice way) now. Luckily I can wear my new Accapi Tee to recover a little faster.
